Deleuze & Klee’s Twittering Machine

Art Theory & Aesthetics

Paul Klee’s “Twittering Machine” imagines a hand cranked machine with four birds perched, or shackled, to its axle. In his line drawing, as the crank turns, the birds lurch up to generate a sonic tweet. Reportedly a favorite watercolor for nurseries, the painting has a potentially darker message for others.

The Theoretical Puppets team brings Deleuze to life, beginning at 2:02 mins where puppet Deleuze proposes that we discuss “twittering.”
